Art Lesson Rhythm and Repetition (Baitinger)

Leonardo Da Vinci- Born April 15, 1452 and died May 2, 1519.
Leonardo's work today will help us learn about:

1. Rhythm-the flow of movement of something.
2. Repetition-the repeated use of an object or shape

Both of these help the eye move just like the flow of poetry or music moves with sound.

The most famous piece of artwork by Leonardo Da Vinci: Mona Lisa

"The Annunciation" by Leonardo Da Vinci. At this time in history artists were told what they could paint.

What repeated shapes do you see?
Is there a rhythm and flow?

This is a reproduction of "Hockey Players" by Ernst Ludwig

Do you see repeated shapes?
How are the shapes different and alike?

Another reproduction using repetition is "Parade" by Jacob Lawrence

Is there rhythm? Is your eye moving?
